Cryo Engineer

Permanent employee, Full-time · Delft

Our mission

QuantWare is the world's leading manufacturer of superconducting quantum hardware. As a high growth start-up with a global customer base, our mission is to accelerate the advent of the quantum computer. We push the boundaries of what's possible in our field. We work on making the world’s largest quantum processors, as fast as possible.

At QuantWare, we’re not just producing quantum hardware for the hyperscalers of tomorrow; we’re working on technology that will change the world. To make that ambition a reality, we need exceptional people who drive real impact. That’s where you come in.

Impact of the role

QuantWare is looking for a Cryogenics Engineer to help push the performance, capacity and reliability of our quantum measurement setups. In this role, you’ll be responsible for improving cryogenic setup performance across multiple dimensions, from achieving near state-of-the-art coherence times to expanding measurement capacity and ensuring high operational availability of our cryostat fleet. You’ll also play a key role in commissioning new cryogenic systems and optimising infrastructure to support quantum processor development, benchmarking and production.

This role is ideal for an engineer with deep expertise in cryogenic setups, a strong grasp of RF measurement systems, and a drive to build and maintain high-performance infrastructure at scale. You will play a critical role in enabling the measurement ambitions of QuantWare’s R&D and product development teams.

What you'll be doing

Core Responsibilities

  • Improve performance of setups (e.g. stable base temperature, reduce ground loops, fab-limited coherence vs flux, large dephasing times, low excited state population) to near SotA numbers

  • Expanded capability of cooling down and measuring small-sized R&D devices by optimizing cryogenic-real estate from 8 to 12 per cooldown

  • Ensuring Operational Availability of cryostats stays at 95%+ as fridge park scales

  • Procure new cryogenic hardware and ensure new fridges are tested and operational 4 weeks after arrival

Supporting Responsibilities

  • Support engineering teams with measurements

  • Optimise shielding and packaging

  • Improve accuracy of S-parameter measurement setup

What we offer

You’ll be part of a high-performing team of world-leading experts at the forefront of quantum technology on a mission to change the world. QuantWare offers a fast-paced environment where you can excel and become the best version of yourself. You can shape and own your role, taking on significant responsibility from day one.

  • The opportunity to work with leading researchers and developers on groundbreaking quantum technologies.

  • A chance to deepen your technical expertise while building skills in customer engagement and solution development.

  • A collaborative and inclusive work environment that values growth, innovation, and impact.

  • An excellent monthly salary, depending on experience, and holiday pay (a bonus of 8% of your annual salary, paid out once a year in May)

  • A very solid pension scheme (20% off your annual salary, minus the statutory offset, of which QuantWare contributes 63%). On top of that, we fully pay for your  partner’s and orphan’s pension plus disability premium waiver. For a secure future for you and your loved ones.

  • We believe in giving and taking ownership, that’s why we let you decide on when and how to get your work done - as long as it gets done (i.e. through an open vacation policy, flexible working hours and hybrid working options).

  • For international colleagues we provide support with relocation to the Netherlands, tailored to your personal circumstances (e.g. visa application, travel costs, temporary housing and support in applying for a 30% tax benefit);

  • Great extra benefits: the choice between a public transport business card or travel allowance, a development budget based on personal ambitions and need and plenty of social and health initiatives (such as team outings, chair massages and sports classes).

So, now we've got your attention and interest. Do apply! In case you have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out to our Talent Acquisition Specialist Roberta Dessi via roberta.dessi@quantware.com

Your profile

Qualifications

  • Deep understanding of cryogenic setups and common failure modes

  • Experience with RF measurements and optimisation of RF setups

  • Experience with CAD design is a plus
